The complex logistical effort required to host next summer’s Tour de France Grand Depart was outlined at a meeting in Keighley.

Bradford Council sports events officer Andy Ross told a gathering at Keighley Civic Centre that the Council may deploy 1,200 staff to handle the event when it passes through Keighley district next July.

He told members of the Bronte Country Tourism Partnership that Keighley town centre’s roads could be closed for about 12 hours on July 6, 2014.

“We do know that people will want to put on local events to get involved and celebrate this,” he said. “What we would ask is that they inform us at the Council about these things sooner rather than later.”

He emphasised that the need to keep the Council informed also applied to landowners interested in setting up temporary car parks and campsites to accommodate the thousands of anticipated visitors.
