Youngsters and leaders from a Keighley Scout group took the plunge to raise money for charity.

Members of the St Anne’s group abseiled more than 100 feet down the north face of Keighley Shared Church tower.

Saturday’s event raised just over £1,000 through sponsorship and donations for Shelterbox, which provides boxes of emergency equipment – such as tents and blankets – to people who have lost everything in disasters.

Fourteen adults, including district commissioner Jeanette Young, and 20 young people took part in the event.

“It was brilliant,” said Jonathan Gallucci, for the group. “Our target was to raise £590 to pay for a complete shelterbox but we will hopefully raise enough for two boxes by the time all the sponsorship money is in.”
