A vigilant member of the public called the fire brigade after spotting smoke coming from a derelict mill in Bradford tonight.
Firefighters from Bradford station discovered a small fire in the basement of the four-storey building on Wigan Street.
Watch commander Gio Richetta said someone had set fire to some mattresses and added that it looked like someone had been sleeping rough in there.
