A Bradford theatre school is marking its 21st anniversary with a show in memory of a former student who died aged 25.

Footsteps Theatre School in Eccleshill is staging a performance called 21, reviving numbers it has performed over the past 21 years, at St George’s Hall tomorrow and Saturday.

Proceeds will go to the Faye Knowles-Chapman Foundation, set up in memory of the former student who attended Footsteps from the age of 11.

Downton Abbey star Sophie McShera and former Emmerdale star Verity Rushworth, who both went to the theatre school with Faye, are coming back for the show.

Faye became a choreographer and dancer, performing on cruise ships. She died in March this year after suffering cervical cancer.

Her mother, Eileen Chapman, said the charity set up in her memory was aimed at changing legislation to allow young women regular cervical screenings.

“Faye didn’t have a smear test because she was under 25, but this is a disease that affects young women too.” Hiedi Westman, principal of Footsteps and Faye’s dance teacher, said Faye’s boyfriend, Christopher Sweeney, had choreographed a routine in her memory for the show and it will be accompanied by video footage of her. “It will be a moving tribute to her,” she said.

Both shows start at 7.15pm with an extra Saturday matinee at 2.15pm.
