A cash award of £2,000 is music to the ears of a Bradford youth band, which is helping to get more children from all walks of life to take up an instrument.
The Leo Group, a recycling and renewable energy company, has given the grant to Queensbury Scout Band as part of its Community Fund scheme. The money will pay for ten new trumpets for the band, which teaches children from the age of eight how to play musical instruments of their choice, even if they don’t have their own.
Oliver Richardson, from the Scout Band, said: “Learning to play an instrument can be expensive and many children and their families can’t afford instruments of their own.
“However, this shouldn’t prevent them from pursuing an interest in music.
“With so many video games around and our increasing reliance on technology, music is one of the last ‘real-life’ pursuits that doesn’t involve being glued to a screen all day, and more importantly, one that young people still enjoy”.
