A man who has fought cancer for 20 years was the guest of honour at a fundraising race at University Academy Keighley.
Michael Cumbers cut the ribbon to start the three-mile race and wished students and staff luck as they set off.
The Race at our Place is expected to raise £300 for Manorlands through sponsorship and donations.
Students ran 12 times around their athletics track, competing against each other through the Academy’s Communities system and receiving prizes and trophies.
Prizes and trophies went to Safyaan Ishaq, who was first, Nasir Ali, who was second, and Yasmin Ali, third.
Monday’s event was inspired by Michael and his wife Hillary, a teacher at the Academy. Mr Cumbers recently underwent life-changing spinal surgery at Leeds General Infirmary.
The surgery came about through intervention by Manorlands staff when he stayed at the hospice for ten days on a pain-management course.
