Calderdale is expected to move a step closer to joining a super-council for West Yorkshire next week.

Calderdale Council’s Cabinet will meet on Monday to discuss the plan to sign up to the West Yorkshire Combined Authority.

The Leader of Calderdale Council, Councillor Tim Swift, is in favour of the idea.

He said: “By working together within a Combined Authority, the five councils within West Yorkshire will have a real say in the future of the region, influencing strategic development and allowing us to access additional funding from central government. This is about delivering major investment in our infrastructure that will support long-term economic growth in Calderdale and across our region, and investing in the skills we need for the future.”

If agreed by the Cabinet, the matter would then go to the full Calderdale Council.

Bradford Council is due to make a decision on whether to sign up when it meets on Tuesday.
