A club for model railway enthusiasts says it is here to stay after voicing fears last year that it might be forced to close.
In early 2012 Keighley Model Railway Club said a business rates rise at Keighley Business Centre, in South Street, could spell the end of its activities after 38 years in the town.
The group warned the changes would mean it would have to find more than £2,000 extra each year, on top of its £5,300 rates and £6,000-plus rent.
But a club spokesman said this week: “Following an appeal to the Valuations Office, and with the forbearance of Bradford Council while this process took place, we have succeeded in having our premises re-evaluated.
“As a result of this, and the fact that the club is a company limited by guarantee, we have been able to take advantage of the Government’s Small Business Support Scheme which currently offers business rates exemption.”
