Seven organisations will benefit from an £8,519 handout from Baildon Town Council.

Members agreed to divide the cash between worthy local groups, beginning with money to fund a new Girl Guide unit.

The 8th Baildon Guides will be based at St Aidan’s church and has been promised £500 for start-up stationery and craft materials. “That’s fantastic,” said Shipley Guides divisional commissioner Elaine Ferrie.

“Guiding is very, very strong in Baildon. We’re starting the new unit because we have such long waiting lists.”

Baildon Methodist Church will get £490 to buy two table tennis tables.

The Friends of Denso Marston Nature Reserve’s £434 will go towards a wildflower project, and £170 will go to Baildon Local History Society for its 11th walks booklet. Baildon in Bloom gets £3,000 and £1,200 goes to Baildon at Christmas to support its festive celebration on December 2. And Friends of Baildon Moor were promised £2,725 to improve a moorside footpath.
