Merlin the magician and a dragon will be among visitors to Cliffe Castle Park, in Keighley, during its first Medieval Day.

The park’s conservation group is hosting the free family event on the opening weekend of Keighley Festival.

Members say the jamboree on Sunday will celebrate the mock medieval design of Cliffe Castle and its grounds.

Visitors have been invited to go along in medieval costume and there will be a prize for the best children's costume.

Attractions include a shield-making workshop, an ‘olde plant shoppe’ and the chance to try on a medieval helmet.

Keighley Sea Cadets and local Scouts will take part in a cupboard tug-of-war, while the 1st Haworth Brownies will dance at 11am, noon and 1pm.

Workers on the MyPlace project will answer questions about a recent archeological dig they have carried out in the park with schoolchildren.

The Cliffe Castle Cafe will host an exhibition of medieval-themed art arranged arranged by Keighley Art Group.

In the park’s Garden Of Life, near Beechcliffe, visitors can listen to a medieval storyteller at 10.30am, 11.30am and 12.30pm.
