Local children have been digging in over the past few days to discover what was under their feet at Cliffe Castle, Keighley.
They took part in an archaeological dig on one of the terraces in front of the historic former mansion, now a museum.
Families and schoolchildren learned at first hand the techniques used by real archaeologists.
The dig is part of the My Place project, run by West Yorkshire Joint Services, to give local children an insight into the history of their communities.
Pupils from several local schools had already visited Cliffe Castle earlier this year to learn about geophysics and magnetometry, which allows archaeologists to find buried walls and ditches by recording small changes in the soil's magnetism.
My Place is funded by the National Lottery Fund and involves 20 schools in the district over a two-year period.
