Little Liam Pearson has got a hat-trick of middle names – thanks to his Bradford City supporter dad.

The 39-year-old lorry driver, of Eccleshill, has named his baby son after all three of the City players who scored goals at the League Two play-off final against Northampton at Wembley in May.

Liam Hanson McArdle Wells Pearson weighed in at 8.5lbs when he was born five weeks ago, cutting short his dad’s partying in Centenary Square when the victorious team were paraded on a double-decker bus.

James Hanson had scored the first goal, Rory McArdle netted the second and Nhaki Wells got the third.

“I got a phone call telling me to get to the BRI quick, so had to make a mad dash,” said Mr Pearson, who also has a nine-year-old daughter called Lucy Amber, named after City's claret and amber colours.

"I was really enjoying myself seeing the team come home, but once the call came I had to go. I would have got in to big trouble otherwise!”

Mr Pearson made it to the delivery suite in time and was able to see Liam make his entrance into the world.

Three months earlier the City fan had used all his powers of persuasion to get his partner Bev Roberts to make the trip to Wembley for the Capital One Cup final against Swansea – just so he could say his son had been there.

“We knew by then he was going to be a boy. I wanted him to be there. I’ve got a photo of Bev and the bump at Wembley,” he said.

Mr Pearson, of Fagley Crescent, added: “I hope in 20 years’ time Liam will still appreciate why he’s got those middle names. I had been hoping all 11 of the players would have scored, but Liam will probably be quite happy they didn't.”
