Young artists, painters and sculptors are being encouraged by Bradford Council to take part in the bi-annual Bradford Young Open Competition that showcases the artistic talent of the district.

The competition is aimed at young people aged 16 and under who live, work and study in the district. Any one person can submit a maximum of three pieces and are urged to take inspiration from the current sculpture displays at Cartwright Hall Art Gallery in Lister Park.

Schools and group organisation entries are also being sought. In these cases, up to six pieces from individuals, or collaborative pieces can be entered.

The submitted works will be on display at the Cartwright Hall Art Gallery in Lister Park this summer and prizes, awarded courtesy of the Friends of Bradford Art Galleries and Museums, for each relevant category will be awarded at a prize-giving celebration on Sunday, July 14, from 1pm to 3pm at the gallery.

Entry for the competition is free and all pieces should be handed in at Cartwright Hall Art Gallery before this Sunday, accompanied by a completed entry form which can be downloaded from bradfordmuseums.org or is available in printed form at Cartwright Hall.
