Firefighters rescued a dog from a burning flat after a child’s bed caught on fire.
Crews from Cleckheaton and Brighouse fire stations were called out to Foldings Road, Scholes, at 7am yesterday.
A couple and their two young children had already escaped from the ground- floor flat, but the family’s dog was still inside.
Cleckheaton crew commander Cormac Goode said: “Fortunately the flat had smoke detectors, which alerted the parents and they managed to evacuate the house with their two children.
“Everybody was out by the time we got there, but there was a dog inside.
“We managed to get the dog out, so the kiddies were happy.”
He said fire investigators were now looking into the cause of the blaze, and the crew would be doing a follow-up visit to the area to make sure neighbours also had smoke alarms fitted.
