Year Two pupils at Burley Oaks Primary School designed and made their own bridges as part of a wider topic on 19th Century engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel and his bridges.
A competition, sponsored by Burley Bridge Association (BBA), saw the children design their own bridges to provide a crossing of the River Wharfe in Burley. Year Two teacher Jo Johnson said the children, aged six and seven, used the school’s iPads and a programme called Skitch to design bridges which they then made at home and brought into school.
“Once in school we used iPads to take photos and used the app pic collage to create posters using their photos and added text with their thoughts on should there and should there not be a bridge over the River Wharfe,” said Mrs Johnson.
The children’s bridges have been on display in Burley Library.
The BBA is campaigning for a safe river crossing of the Wharfe at Burley.
