Proposals to turn a Keighley car dealership into an Islamic education centre will go before planners next week.
The Al Hidaayah Foundation wants to buy the Reg Thompson car dealership in Bridge Street, in the Damside area, which has been on the market for more than three years.
Bradford planning officers have recommended its application should be approved.
The foundation, which is based in Victoria Road, says the dealership site is ideal for its planned centre, which it says will enable local Muslims to fulfil their religious duties and reach out to the wider society.
The group’s application notes: “The existing property requires little alteration to meet our needs, and will complement other community facilities by providing for the spiritual, social and civic need of Muslims in the Keighley area.”
If given permission, the development would include classrooms, a recreation area, library and cafe.
The proposals will be considered by Keighley & Shipley Area Planning Panel on Wednesday, June 19 at 10am in Keighley Town Hall.
