Firefighters are tonight tackling a large blaze in a disused sewage tank in Heckmondwike.
Crews from Cleckheaton, Batley and Dewsbury were called to the Yorkshire Water plant on Smithies Lane at about 6.55pm.
A spokesman for West Yorkshire Fire Service said the crews were still pumping water onto the fire at 9.20pm.
He added that the old sewage tank was full of plastic and rubbish that had caught fire.
“There is nothing else around the tank,” said the spokesman. “But it is giving off lots of smoke and can be seen around the area for some distance so lots of people have been dialling 999.”
