A devoted carer and her terminally ill mum were both shortlisted for awards in a double honour.
Hannah Roche and her mother Christine were finalists in the Sue Ryder Yorkshire Women of Achievement Awards.
Since being diagnosed with incurable cancer in 2010, Mrs Roche has been cared for by her 27-year-old daughter. Initially, Hannah combined the role with her studies for a masters degree at Sussex University in Brighton. But on completion of the course in 2011, she returned to the family home in Long Lee, to become a full-time carer.
Hannah said: “Anyone in my position would do the same for their mum.”
Hannah was shortlisted in the Young Achiever of the Year category and, in turn, nominated her mum in the education section.
Mrs Roche, 61, taught at the former Thorn Park School for deaf children in Bradford and was then instrumental in plans to set up provision for deaf children at the city’s Hanson School.
