Bradford Council remains united with its counterparts in York and Manchester in a bid to save all three regional museums from cuts, the Leader of the Council has said.

Coun David Green met with officials from the two other cities yesterday where he said all three agreed to meet again after the Government spending review on June 26 to see how the cuts would affect their institutions.

The National Media Museum, along with the National Railway Museum in York and the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester, is currently under threat of possible closure if Government cuts prove one cut too many.

Coun Green said: “We reiterated that whilst local campaigns are going on around each museum, we are clear it is about sticking together.”

A giant birthday card to celebrate the museum’s 30th birthday is also being taken around by Coun Green to be signed and plans for a video supporting the campaign are being made after Tuesday’s meeting at City Hall.

Brian Cantor, the new vice-chancellor of Bradford University, has also offered his support as the museum looks to secure its future.

He said: “We have a strong and long standing relationship with the museum and it plays a huge part in attracting students to our city and is a fantastic asset for Bradford.”

l The petition launched to save the museum now stands at nearly 35,000 signatures. Sign the petition at thetelegraphandargus.co.uk
