Shropshire railway enthusiasts are repaying the compliment after borrowing a steam engine from Keighley’s heritage railway.

The Severn Valley Railway has agreed to loan its Pannier Tank locomotive 1501 for the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway’s autumn steam spectacular.

Coal Tank, a historic loco normally based in Keighley, last autumn ran on the Severn Valley line soon after its lottery-funded restoration.

Coal Tank is owned by the volunteer-run Bahamas Locomotive Society which has its workshop and museum at Ingrow station.

The Keighley and Shropshire enthusiasts already have close links: in 2008 the Severn Valley Railway provided replacement parts so a loco could be repaired in time for Keighley's steam gala.

This year's steam spectacular is on October 11-13 and will feature several locos, model railway layouts, vintage vehicle displays, and guided tours of the locomotive shed.
