Commuters at Bradford Interchange were treated to music and dancing with a twist yesterday.

Three musicians and four dancers performed in the bus and train station for two hours in the morning and evening as part of Bradford Festival.

In a performance entitled Journeys, the dancers paired up and twirled in and out of commuters with ribbons, while the musicians played in the background.

Dancer Suzy Russell said: “We are an improvisation group and we are doing improvisation based on journeys, playing with ribbons and movement. We as dancers are reacting to the sounds of the musicians.”

A patch of grass was also laid down in the bus station, with dancer Sam Musgrave explaining that it “makes a change and people might enjoy it”.

Festival events today include Hard Times theatre at the New Bradford Playhouse, a funfair at Infirmary Fields between 5pm and 8.30pm and a photography exhibition in Centenary Square between 11am and 4pm.

Meanwhile, Bradford Festival Choral Society will be opening the weekend of musical performances in City Park with a rousing programme of choral classics.

Zadok the Priest, the Hallelujah chorus and Verdi’s famous Anvil Chorus, and culminating in Carl Orff’s celebrated Carmina Burana, will be included.

The free concert starts at 7.30pm in City Park on Friday.

The choir will be accompanied by the Skipton Building Society Camerata orchestra.
