A painter of model soldiers wants to help children and young people brush up their art skills.

Mark Jowett, from Cowling, near Keighley, believes that playing wargames can be educational as well as fun.

He said the hobby taught skills in a range of subjects including reading, maths, history, research and art.

Although he usually charges for his services he is willing to lead some painting classes for schools and charities for free.

Mark said: “It helps children who sometimes find it difficult to learn at school. They find a subject they want to learn about.”
