An Ilkley supermarket has become the first in West Yorkshire to install an in-store defibrillator for public use.

Booths has invested £1,000 in purchasing the machine which was unveiled at its Ilkley store in Leeds Road on Thursday.

Ten staff members will be trained to use potentially life-saving equipment.

A defibrillator is a life-saving machine that gives the heart an electric shock in some cases of cardiac arrest. For every minute that passes without defibrillation chances of survival decrease by 14 per cent.

Training is now being delivered to duty managers and first aiders in the store by Heartstart Addingham and Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS).
