A heavy goods vehicle driver caught growing cannabis was told by a judge that road users would be “horrified” to think he was behind the wheel after taking the drug.
Christopher Kelly, 33, was nurturing 22 plants at his home at Bankfield Drive, Braithwaite, Keighley, Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday.
He pleaded guilty to production of cannabis on February 14. The court heard Kelly came home to find the police in his house.
They seized the plants, with a yield of £8,000, from under a growing tent.
Kelly told officers he smoked the drug daily and it was all for his own use.
His barrister, Nick Askins, said Kelly had now quit using cannabis completely.
He was in employment as an driver and living back with his wife and family.
Judge Colin Burn sentenced him to a 12-month community order with 180 hours of unpaid work.
