Friends and family of a young women who died from breast cancer are setting up a charity fund in her memory.
Nadia Shaw (pictured) was 33 when she lost her battle against the disease in 2011. She was a driving instructor and a nail technician, and also worked behind the bar of The Crown Inn in Addingham for many years.
Maria Wells, landlady of The Crown, Nadia’s sister Galina Harrison and friend Becky Shaw have set up ‘Nadia’s Wish’.
The first fundraiser is a black-tie event at The Crown on Friday, May 3, featuring DJ Martin Roe, music from The Sequel Band, raffles and food. The trio are busy asking businesses for raffle prize donations. Becky, an events organiser said: “Every year we will try and hold a charity event of some sort to raise money for a charity close to Nadia.”
They want to send four-year-old Olivia Wilkinson, of Ilkley, who suffers from a life-limiting heart condition, to Euro Disney. The second charity to benefit is Manorlands Hospice near Keighley. To help, e-mail beckyshaw@live.co.uk or call 07961 809986.
