A dog was rescued from a cliff ledge after being missing for more than 24 hours.

The Cocker Spaniel had run off from its owners on Tuesday morning while they were walking in Calverley Woods, Calverley.

After failing to find the dog, the couple resumed their search yesterday and found it stranded on a 25-feet high ledge. Fire crews from Cleckheaton and Rawdon stations were called to the scene at 10.30am.

Rawdon crew commander Clive Warrington said: “We think it has fallen from the top of the 50-foot cliff and landed on the ledge halfway down. It was quite lucky not to be injured.”

“The owners were over the moon when the dog came down. They had been trying to keep the dog calm so it didn’t jump off the ledge during the rescue.”

A firefighter climbed a ladder to rescue the dog, before lowering it down on a line system.
