Parents in Bowling, Barkerend and Bradford Moor are to get a lesson on the dangers in drugs as part of Tackling Anti-Social Behaviour Together Week.

The special sessions have been set up for as part of the week to reduce low level crime and nuisance.

The session at Laisterdyke College today is aimed at increasing their own knowledge about illegal drugs and their consequences.

Bradford PC Sue Whitmore said: “Often young people know more about drugs than their parents do, so this session really seeks to redress the balance and raise awareness.

“We will go through all the different types of drugs and their classification, what they look like and how they are often used.

“They will also learn about the penalties for using and dealing of illegal drugs.

“Each will be told what signs to look for in someone who may be using illegal drugs, such as cannabis and have the opportunity to ask questions.

“Often the loved ones of drug users feel powerless to be able to act and this work is aimed at empowering them to intervene.”

A session has already taken place at Mortimer House Children’s Centre in Thornbury and another is planned on Thursday at Barkerend Children’s Centre.
