Haworth Parish Church will start the second part of its three-phase restoration plan by hosting a concert and choral holy communion next month.

‘Viva la Musica’, a 12-strong travelling choir of men and women from the East Midlands, will visit the church on Saturday, April 27 to deliver an hour-long concert with an English pastoral theme.

The following day they will perform the rarely-heard choral Eucharist at the church’s service.

All the admission money will go towards the renovation fund.

John Thawley, the choir chairman, said: “We like to perform in churches where the acoustics are suited to the kind of music we perform and Haworth Parish Church fits that bill perfectly.

“It’s also going to be a pleasure for the choir to help with the church’s restoration programme, while enjoying a weekend away in Haworth at the same time.”

The Rev Peter Mayo-Smith, the priest in charge at the church, said: “We’ve been looking forward to the visit by Viva La Musica for some time.

“Besides wanting to hear them in the concert on the Saturday evening, it’s going to be a treat for the congregation to have the choral Eucharist at our morning service.

“It’s so rarely heard in churches around the country these days that to have it performed in Haworth is going to be really special.”

Entry to the concert on April 27 will be by making a donation of £3 for adults, £2 for senior citizens and £1 for children on the evening.
