A Bradford charity will next month hold a summit to discuss how the city can benefit from the legacy of last year’s London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Representatives of community projects and sports volunteers from across the district will share ideas about how they believe the area can capitalise on the success of Team GB during an event organised by Bradford Community Volunteer Service (CVS).

The Telegraph & Argus has reported how the organisation had seen a surge in people inquiring about volunteering at sports clubs since Bradford City’s Capital One Cup run.

And it now wants groups to speak about ideas for community sports and health projects during the event at Manningham Mills Sports and Community Association on Thursday, April 18.

Clive Whittaker, of Bradford CVS, said: “This event is for individuals or community organisations who are currently running or considering running a sports or health project.

“Keynote speakers will kick off the event and will be followed by a number of specialist workshops.

“We are running free afternoon and evening sessions that focus on the setting up and running a project, attracting funding and the challenges you might face.”

Bradford CVS is running the meeting in partnership with Manningham Mills Sports and Community Association, Scholemoor Beacon, Millan Centre, West Yorkshire Sport, participate!, Health Partnership Project and Bradford Council.

A representative of West Yorkshire Sport will start the meeting with a speech to inspire people to keep the London 2012 legacy alive within their communities.

Matt Milnes, of Scholemoor Beacon, which has created new sports facilities for people in the area, will also be attending.

He said: “For me, this event is about sharing the journey I have been on. Scholemoor Beacon has managed to turn a derelict sports stadium into a new community park and sports facility for young people.

“It has taken 12 years and it hasn’t been easy, but it is something that can be achieved if you can get the right people together and get the funders to understand your vision.”

The event will run fron 12.30pm to 4pm and 5pm to 7pm.
