Former Post Office can sell alcohol
9:00am Wednesday 27th February 2013 in News
A bid by a newsagent in the Bolton Road area of Bradford to sell alcohol seven days a week has been passed.
But Councillor Howard Middleton (Lib Dem, Bolton and Undercliffe) who had objected to the scheme, welcomed a move to reduce the hours from those initially applied for.
At a Bradford Licensing Panel hearing yesterday Mohammed Ikram, of the former post office premises at 1041 Bolton Road, was granted permission to turn his store into an off-licence.
He had requested the hours of 7am to 11pm for Bolton Road News - but this was reduced by an hour at either end of the day. Members of the panel agreed to a licence for the hours of 8am to 10pm instead.
A handful of objections had been made to the Council over the application, raising concerns over anti-social behaviour and noise nuisance from youths congregating in the area.
Conditions were also placed on the licence, following a request from West Yorkshire Police, which included the installation of a CCTV system.
