Two people were seriously injured in a pile-up involving two cars and a lorry on the Stanningley bypass near Pudsey at 1am today.

Firefighters from Stanningley and Leeds attended the crash scene, along with paramedics and police.

The incident involved three vehicles, a Volkswagen Golf, an Audi A3 and a MAN Truck.

The Golf and the Audi were being driven towards Leeds when they were in a collision. The Audi then hit the truck parked in a layby, said a police spokesman.

The driver of the Audi and the passenger suffered serious injuries.

Any witnesses to the incident have been urged to contact police on 101.

Three men have been arrested in connection with the incident and remain in custody.

Police have advised drivers to find an alternative route as the bypass is expected to remain closed until lunchtime.
