Drugs worth £1.3 million were seized from Bradford’s streets – along with 12 imitation guns, two stun guns and CS gas canisters – in a two-week police blitz which resulted in 100 arrests.

Officers last night revealed the results of Operation Sabredale, which saw 130 vehicles and more than £290,000 in cash found in the series of raids since Monday, February 4.

Chief Inspector Dan Greenwood hailed the crackdown as “one of West Yorkshire’s biggest operational seizures of drugs, firearms and offensive weapons”.

He told how officers found two imitation guns which appeared to be in the process of being transformed into live firing weapons and stun guns were intercepted in the post.

“This is an indication of the level of our investigations over what are key priorities for both the police and the public,” he said.

“Significantly, on Wednesday we made an arrest of a 30-year-old man in the Wyke area of Bradford on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

“This followed a seizure of two guns in the Keighley area in December last year and a considerable amount of scientific work by forensic officers.

“There are clear connections between drugs, money and firearms and we have worked to tackle every element of this network throughout the district.”

Police said officers on Monday searched a property of Glenbrook Drive in Lidget Green and seized 17 cannabis plants.

This led to the search of a further address where £1,000 in cash was found and an estimated £5,000 of suspected drugs. Three people were arrested and released on bail.

A cannabis factory was uncovered on Thursday on Parsonage Road, West Bowling, where 60 plants were seized estimated at about £6,000, and another was found yesterday morning on Farmhill Road in Thorpe Edge.

The operation has seen officers execute 115 warrants involving partner organisations.

Ch Insp Greenwood added: “Throughout this operation we have focused our efforts on removing the root causes linked to firearms with some significant success.

“This could not have been achieved, however, without the support and co-operation of the genuine and decent members of our local communities.

“They have come forward with information which has enabled us to build upon our own intelligence and take action to make the district a safer place to live and work.

“I would call on local residents to continue to stand up for what is right and work with us in maintaining the pressure on this criminal minority.

“Operation Sabredale does not end here. We will be using all the information we have received to develop and pursue offenders in the weeks ahead.”
