The internationally renowned Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra is playing Mahler’s 5th Symphony at St George’s Hall this Sunday afternoon.
The fourth movement of the symphony is perhaps best known for its use in the 1971 Luchino Visconti film Death in Venice and was written as a love song to Mahler’s sweetheart Alma.
The programme also includes music by Penderecki, which will be recognised from Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining, and Bernstein.
Composer Leonard Bernstein became a household name with a string of hits, including West Side Story.
This concert promises to be monumental in more ways than one, with 100 musicians on stage.
The concert at St George’s Hall on February 17 starts at 3pm.
Tickets range from £12.50 to £26.50. For the under 30’s tickets are £5.
