Brave brain tumour survivor Jake Turton will lead his Bantam heroes out at Wembley in the Capital One Cup Final a week on Sunday.

The nine-year-old was confirmed yesterday as one of two official club mascots.

Jake got thousands of well-wishers behind him on Facebook wanting him to do the honours after Bradford skipper Gary Jones gave him his shirt at the end of the club’s semi-final triumph at Aston Villa last month.

Another courageous Bradford boy, 12-year-old Ryan Siddall, of Buttershaw, will be joining Jake leading the team out of the tunnel.

Ryan, who was born with a renal condition, is only alive because his father donated a kidney for transplant back in 2006.

Bradford City had to get special permission from the Football League to break with tradition and have two mascots next weekend. After some deliberation, the Football League agreed.

A City spokesman said: “We wanted to give both of these incredibly brave boys the opportunity to walk out with the team at Wembley and have a truly special day.

"We approached the Football League and asked if we could essentially have an extra mascot on the day as we didn’t want to have to choose between Jake and Ryan.

“The League has been very kind and understanding to enable us to do this.”

Jake, of Northowram, has already led the team out once – when Bradford played Villa at Valley Parade in the semi-final first leg but it will be the first time for Ryan, who won a gold in the British Transplant Games last year in table tennis and got a bronze in the ball-throw competition.

Ryan was meant to be a mascot for the City match with Rotherham but it was cancelled when the Bantams got to the cup final.

His mum Rose Siddall said: “We’re ecstatic about going to Wembley. We can’t wait!”

And Ryan said: “I’m a bit nervous but I'm looking forward to it.”

When asked what advice he would be giving the team as they make their way out of the Wembley tunnel, Ryan said: “Win!”

Jake’s dad Andy said: “Jake had a big grin on his face when he heard the news. He was just punching the air.

“We want to thank Bradford City for everything they have done for Jake and to all the people who supported us on Facebook.

“We’re also delighted for Ryan.”
