The rebirth of the Great Victoria Hotel on Bridge Street after two years in limbo since the demise of its previous owners – who did much to improve the historic Victorian structure – is a positive development.
New owners Gainford Hotels have so far invested more than £1 million, with more on the way, in refurbishing the public areas of the venerable venue, including a new lounge, a marble foyer, a refurbished bar, new offices and new kitchens serving basement suites.
Giant historic photographs of the city centre line the walls of the main corridor.
Around 20 jobs and work experience opportunities have been created – including for some catering trainees at Bradford College – and a programme of upgrading some of the 70 bedrooms has started.
North East-based Gainford says its decision to buy and improve the hotel reflects its faith in the city and its potential. Good stuff.
