A shaken shopkeeper has told of his terror after knife-wielding robbers burst into his mini-market in Bradford.

Three balaclava mask-clad men – one with what is said to be an eight-inch blade – targeted Greengates Mini-Market and stole £300 in cash, as well as ripping two necklaces from the neck of the store owner’s terrified wife.

The jewellery is believed to be valued at about £1,200.

The trio were captured on CCTV bursting into the store on Ruswarp Crescent. One of the raiders hurdled the counter, while another went round the side. The third stole the jewellery.

The 48-year-old shopkeeper, who did not want to be named, was shoved over in the raid and can be seen on camera pleading with the robbers to stop.

He said: “I was scared of what they were doing to my wife. It was frightening and all happened so quickly – it was over in about 30 seconds.”

The man, who lives at the shop with his 62-year-old wife, said the couple were now living in fear.

“We are nervous when the door opens,” he said. “We are scared they will come back. My wife has been shaken.”

The couple, who were not injured in the raid, have owned the shop for 12 years. It is the first time they have been targeted by robbers.

The raid happened at about 7.30pm on Monday. The robbers, who ignored alcohol and cigarettes in the raid, are described as white and slim.

They made off along Rookwith Parade and got in a silver or grey saloon car before driving off.

Detective Inspector Neil Benstead, of Airedale and North Bradford CID, said: “This was a frightening robbery where the victims were subjected to threats with a knife and unnecessary violence.”

One of the robbers was wearing a black Adidas tracksuit with three light grey stripes, black trainers and gloves.

Another was wearing a black hooded top with a white logo on the back, grey or blue bottoms, and gloves.

The third man was wearing black clothing, a balaclava, white and black trainers, and gloves.

Any witnesses or anyone with information can contact police on 101.
