Eddie Johnson is convinced he needs no home help to break his Valley Parade scoring duck.

The stocky striker's partnership with Dean Windass looked its sharpest yet as City tore apart Crewe in the FA Cup.

Johnson was at the thick of many of the chances that fell their way and set up a goal for Windass with an incisive pass, threading a ball through two defenders on the edge of the penalty area.

But despite shots raining in on the Crewe goal, he had one teeny-weeny regret - the name Johnson did not find its way on to the scoresheet.

The former Manchester United hitman insists it is not a problem that he is yet to net on his own manor but you can tell he is desperate to set the record straight.

"I was just shooting from everywhere hoping to get that goal," admitted Johnson. "But one's going to go in for me before too long.

"I haven't scored at home yet and it's a bit annoying but if I keep on plugging away, it's going to come.

"The gaffer is giving me a run in the team and that's what I needed. It's taken a bit of time but I feel like I'm settling in with the lads and things are coming together.

"The partnership with Deano is just starting to work, as you could see on Saturday when we had quite a few chances. Yes, I'm disappointed I haven't scored but it will happen soon."

Two of Johnson's three goals in City colours came at Crewe in August and you would have got short odds on him repeating the trick at the weekend.

But despite not making a personal breakthrough, he was delighted to see the team romp back to form with their scoring glut.

Johnson added: "It was just going to be a matter of time for us before things did change round. It has been a bad month or so but the manager's been upbeat in training and told us to keep going.

"The players do believe in each other, despite our blip in results, and we knew a result like this was on the way. Now I'm hoping this is just what we need to get our league form going.

"Scoring early settled us down and the 4-0 score really did resemble the type of performance we put in. It could have been 4-0 by half-time if we had taken our chances.

"The lads really went out there looking to put themselves about. We didn't go into the game feeling sorry for ourselves but determined to get that win."

After choosing City over Crewe in the summer, Johnson came in for some stick on his return to Gresty Road earlier in the season and, predictably, there was more banter at the weekend.

He smiled: "I knew it was coming. They were even saying stuff when I was walking from my car to the changing rooms.

"But it's only a bit of fun. I enjoyed my time with Crewe but they know I'm a Bradford player now.

"And we've got a good record against them so far, winning 3-0 and 4-0. Maybe when they come here again in the league it might be five or even more!"
