Keighley Amateurs celebrate their centenary this year, and a large part of the society’s success has been its annual pantomime performed for more than 40 years. This year’s panto, Aladdin, is described as “a spectacle of colour with lavish costumes and stunning scenery”.
It features music ranging from Andrew Lloyd Webber songs to One Direction hit What Makes You Beautiful.
Audiences are invited to join Widow Twankey and her son Wishee Washee on an adventure with mischievous scamp Aladdin. Bumbling policemen, slapstick routines and lively song and dance numbers unfold as Aladdin sets out to woo his beloved Princess So-Shy, encountering a Genie and some treasure along the way. Meanwhile, Widow Twankey is aiming to be a Las Vegas showgirl...
The cast will be joined on stage by players from Keighley Cougars. Two players will appear at each performance, and the Cougar's mascot will join in a sing-along. Audiences will see the Cougars as never before when players escort Widow Twanky, played by Steven Clark, onto the stage.
Keighley Amateurs chairman Louise Barton says: “We’re delighted that the Cougars are willing to join in the fun. Who knows – they may get the bug and swap the rugby field for the stage!”
Aladdin runs at Victoria Hall, Keighley, from tomorrow to February 2. For tickets ring (01535) 606044 or e-mail enquiries@keighleycougars.com.
