A man is being guarded by police in hospital suffering suspected gunshot injuries following an evening of violence in Bradford.

Detectives are linking a "serious public order" incident in Wrose, Shipley, with the suspected gun incident minutes later in Shearbridge Road, Great Horton yesterday.

Inspector Howard Buckley, of Bradford North police, said reports were received of a fight involving up to 50 people in Snowden Road, Wrose, at 5pm.

"Mention has been made of a gun, but that is an unconfirmed report," he said.

"It appears that bottles and glasses were thrown and people were being beaten up."

Police arrived at the scene, but the culprits had dispersed.

Insp Buckley said some of the suspects appeared to have moved on to Shearbridge Road where there was a reported gunshot at around 5.20pm.

"A man with what are thought to be gunshot injuries is under police protection," he said.

"Arrests have been made and police enquiries are continuing."

Wrose resident Richard Jasper said there was a police presence when he arrived in the Snowdon Road area at around 10pm.

"I'm really surprised something's happened because it's a really quiet area. We've never had trouble," he said.

Abdul Khan, a worker at Haqs Superstore in Shearbridge Road, said a man had come running into the store just before 5.30pm.

"He had injuries on him. His arm was swollen and he said he'd been injured in a fight.

"We gave him tissues and called an ambulance. He said his brother had also been injured.

"Within half an hour there were around 50 people here."
