Bradford South MP Gerry Sutcliffe hits out at benefits changes
3:59pm Tuesday 8th January 2013 in News
MP Gerry Sutcliffe
Hard-working families in Bradford will pay the price of the Coalition government’s economic failure, according to a Labour MP.
Gerry Sutcliffe claimed thousands of employed Bradfordians will be hit hard by changes being brought in by David Cameron and George Osborne.
The Bradford South MP said: “Every week I speak to people in Bradford who have a job and are working hard but still rely on their tax credits to help make ends meet.
“Sometimes we all need a bit of extra help. We need to reform the system so benefits are tough, fair and reward people who work.
"George Osborne and David Cameron have tried to divide the country by dishonestly claiming that their welfare policies are targeting the work-shy and benefit ‘scroungers’. Quite simply, they are introducing a tax on strivers.”
But Bradford East Liberal Democrat MP David Ward said it was the previous Labour government that got the country into the current mess. He said: “I am not happy with the rhetoric coming out of Mr Sutcliffe.”
He said: “I am concerned about the impact it will have in places like Bradford. We are in a terrible economic mess nationally that Mr Sutcliffe’s lot landed us in.”

I thought the social state was a safety net for the really needy. That is unbelievable.
A labour MP criticising other parties for economic failure? Really?

NAZI Conservative Party SCUM!!! ethnic cleansing of the POOR and NEEDY.
Mr Sutcliffe must be quite uncomfortable in trying to defend the middle classes for a change. Shame he's only doing it to make a party political point.

Sutcliffe was around when the housing stock was robbed I mean privatised.
He was also around when our sports club was in trouble and jumped on the bandwagon to save the bulls.
Why don't we just ban politicians....of course we could just lock the useless lot up

It wouldn't be because you are in total denial that these people who hail from a certain community would commit crimes like these, would it? It's a real eye opener isn't it - seeing so many of them convicted and jailed?
Bless your little fragile cotton socks.

Her legacy (another Tory) left this country bereft .
I Believe it time we got out of the European market as well.
Bring manufacturing BACK TO THE UK. Stop buying stuff from overseas. reduce business rates so businesses can stay afloat. Lets put the GREAT back into Great Britain
I personally believe we are WORST OFF for being in this market.
Things WILL get worst.
But HEY were in it together !!

Rather than take as little tax off people as possible, Labour kept income tax rates high & hammered us all for tax via escalators on fuel, heating costs.
They then wasted billions of this revenue & created a complex benefits system & culture whereby they handed out benefits to anyone & everyone in order to but votes.
They talk of tax cuts for millionaires, but why should anyone pay 50% of what they earn to the state?
Let's not forget, Labour actually removed the 10p tax rate from the lowest paid & it's the ConDems who have pushed the tax threshold up to £9,600.
Less tax taken at source means less benefits need to be provided.
Simplify the system, give benefits only to those who really need them.

Benefits:: If you dont need it you shouldnt get it. If you CANNOT work, you should get it. It you CAN work, but WONT work, you should not get it. If you CAN work and are trying to find work, you should get it.
Why should I pay with my hard earned money to give it to people who simply do not deserve it.
Oh, if I ever get wind of who the reprobates are who burgled my sons house just after christmas, a baseball bat looks forward to meeting your face.

I thought it was important. Reckon the countries problem is MPs and the political system - each spouting off their opinions which are simply tribal.
It will solve nothing.
