Campaigners for a village green are giving up their fight.
Steeton Village Action Group says it cannot afford to continue with potentially- costly court action.
Members made the decision after a barrister who was providing free advice to the group pulled out.
The group had wanted to have three fields off Thornhill Road classified as a village green, to prevent Redrow Homes building 220 houses on them.
The campaign, led by villagers Shona Cole and Joanne Stokes, received a major setback when Bradford Council threw out the village green application.
A spokesman said the group had hoped to object to the Council’s refusal, and apply for a judicial review.
He said: “Unfortunately as individuals we cannot afford that – it would be thousands of pounds.”
The spokesman said the donations would be returned where possible, with any remaining money going to charity.
