The lodge within Bowling Park could be transformed into a cafe and art gallery if plans by a Bradford charity get the go ahead.

Part of the Olive Branch Trust works with young people in Bradford, inspiring them to improve their lives. Called ‘e:merge’, the community interest company hopes to renovate the Bradford Council building, as well as adding a cabin to one side to provide a base from which to run outdoor activities, such as cycling and archery.

If the scheme gets the go ahead and the funding required, then the three elements would be run as social enterprises.

Jan De Villiers, development manager at the organisation, said the plans were at a very early stage.

He said that while the building was currently owned by the Council and housed offices, they hoped to be able to complete a community asset transfer, if the plans went ahead.

Details contained in the application explain how the lodge itself is not a listed building, but that the 20 hectare park is Grade II listed.

A decision on the planning application is expected in the middle of January.
