Forget One Direction’s teenage heartthrob Zayn Malik – could Bradford’s next chart stars be over 60?

A company which runs two care homes in the city is on the hunt for older people to help write a hit charity single.

Staff at Springfield Care Home, in Western Way, and Ashcroft Care Home, in Kelvin Way, are inviting anyone over the age of 60 to pop in and share their golden memories.

The best stories of times gone by will be incorporated into the lyrics of a new charity single being produced by the care homes’ owner, Anchor.

The record will be sung by The Anchor Community Band, which is made up of residents of its care homes and retirement housing across England.

The hunt is also on to find a local recording studio which will let band members from Bradford record their song free of charge.

All the money raised from the sales of the song will be donated to the charity Contact the Elderly, which combats loneliness and isolation among older people.

Jill Wiseman, Springfield Care Home’s business manager, said she hoped people aged 60 and over would pop into either of the homes to fill out a form describing the highlights of their lives.

She said: “Music is a powerful medium which brings people together and the record will give older people a voice.

“I would like to hear about older people’s achievements, aspirations and the challenges they have overcome in life as well as hearing about the benefits of old age.”

Mrs Wiseman said recording the song was a way to celebrate the wealth of talent and experience older people had, while raising money for a good cause.

Anyone wanting to share their experiences, or any recording studios willing to offer their facilities for free, can phone Mrs Wiseman on (01274) 694192.
