A new performance singing group starting up in Bradford desperately needs a keyboard player to help them rock.

The Sing From The Heart group is for adults with learning and physical disabilities and is the brainchild of Maralyn Adey who sings with a 300-strong choir called Inspiration.

The venue is booked and the first six dates are set for rehearsals to begin in January – all that is needed now is someone who can play the keyboard, says Mrs Adey of Wrose Road, Wrose, Shipley.

She came up with the idea after her son Kristian, who has Down’s syndrome, and heart and lung problems, wanted to join a Glee-style group and perform.

“This will be a first of its kind in Bradford. There’s a similar one in the Aire Valley and there are some in Leeds, but not here yet,” said Mrs Adey.

The group will meet at the Delius Arts & Community Centre at the back of the Alhambra every Friday from 10.30am to 2pm.

The group has received a £500 donation from the Lord Mayor of Bradford’s Sprinkle Sunshine appeal.

Councillor Dale Smith said: “I was delighted to be able to Sprinkle Sunshine in their direction and I am sure the appeal for a keyboard player will have a positive outcome – for the right person it could be a first step on to a glittering career.

“I am delighted that my Sunshine Appeal is able to dig deep into areas that other initiatives do not reach.”

Hits from the musicals, rock and pop will become part of the group’s repertoire, Mrs Adey said: “Lion King, Les Mis – very much Glee-style, that’s what we’re after, but we do need a keyboard player.”

The first session is on Friday, January 18 and will cost £3 including refreshments. Anyone aged 16 and over and can speak is welcome to join, but singers must come with one-to-one support.
