Children narrowly avoided injury when high winds ripped a board off a “death trap” former fish and chip shop in Eccleshill.
The youngsters were in a car outside the crumbling former Plaice to Eat shop, when the board slammed on to the vehicle’s roof. Now, renewed calls have been made to sort out the chippy that is thought to have been the subject of a lithograph by Bradford artist David Hockney in the 1950s.
Simon Loveitt and Councillor Geoff Reid (Lib Dem, Eccleshill), chairman and vice-chairman of Eccleshill Steering Group, said the boarded-up building had been empty for years.
Coun Reid said Bradford Council had given the building’s owner until the end of yesterday to secure it.
