The hunt is on for Shipley’s hardest-working volunteers with the launch of this year’s Area Community Heroes Awards 2012 - 2013.

The Shipley Area Committee, part of Bradford Council, is asking local people to nominate “unsung heroes” who live in the Shipley constituency whose voluntary work deserves to be recognised. It can be individuals or small groups.

Damian Fisher, Shipley Area Co-ordinator who is running the awards, said: “This is a fantastic chance for people to gain recognition for those who go the extra mile to help others.”

The awards are funded by Shipley Area Committee and are open to anyone from the Wharfedale, Bingley, Bingley Rural, Baildon, Shipley, and Windhill and Wrose wards. The nominators must also live in the constituency.

From those nominated, three outstanding achievement awards will be chosen from three categories:

* individual adult (age 22 or over)

*  individual young person (age 21 or under)

* small group of residents of any age who have worked together on a particular project – with no paid staff – up to a maximum of six named group-members.
