More than 100 students marched through the city yesterday as part of a campaign for Government investment.

Student gathered outside Bradford College before they marched to City Hall where they asked people to sign placards if they agreed with their message.

The action formed part of a national demonstration by the National Union of Students which involved colleges and universities across the country.

Piers Telemacque, president of the college’s student union, said: “We had more than 100 students there. It wasn’t what we had hoped for but it’s still good.

The 20-year-old, of Wibsey, said: “It’s about empowering students, it’s about students realising they do have a stake, not only in their education but also in their futures.

“It’s empowering students to help themselves. It’s about privatisation of education which is creating barriers to people accessing education, so what this is about is students telling the Government, the public and the media that they are angry.”
