A “determined” drug dealer who plied his trade on the streets of Bradford for at least eight years has been jailed for seven years.

Rashid Hussain, 29, of Cecil Terrace, Great Horton, Bradford, was locked up as a “three strikes” drug trafficker at Bradford Crown Court yesterday.

His co-accused, Nauman Shafiq, 27, of Gathorne Street, Great Horton, who had no previous convictions for drugs offences, was imprisoned for two years.

The court heard that the men were convicted by a jury of street drug dealing in Southfield Lane, Great Horton, on February 6 this year. Undercover police saw them sell a wrap of heroin to a known addict from a Mitsubishi Shogun.

The vehicle sounded its horn and flashed its lights to let the customer know it had arrived.

Hussain was jailed for four years in 2006 for conspiracy to supply Class A drugs.

Prosecutor Nigel Hamilton said that in January 2010 he was caught throwing a sock on to wasteland from a car. It contained £4,546 of heroin and crack cocaine.

He had more than £400 in cash on him that was seized by the police and confiscated by the court. Since then, he had also admitted possession of Class A drugs and dangerous driving.

Mr Hamilton said Hussain drove off at speed with an iced-up windscreen. A police officer had to jump clear of his car and schoolchildren were endangered.

Judge John Potter told Hussain he had been supplying drugs on the streets of Bradford for at least eight years. “You are a determined supplier, encouraging others to become involved in drug dealing to the detriment of the community,” the judge said.

The court was told that Shafiq lost his job and had struggled to find other work.

He was unemployed on the day he foolishly got involved in street drug dealing.
