School children became model citizens as they took part in a design competition at Whitcliffe Mount Business College in Cleckheaton yesterday.

Around 80 children competed at the event, which the college introduced last year, with prizes being awarded for the best overall design and the best boys and girls models.

Jo Ford, business and enterprise manager at the college, said: “It went absolutely superbly and all the children had a fabulous day, they really enjoyed it.

“The feedback from the children was very positive. They all had to make little models of a city and had to work out where they would have a hospital, a school, a town hall and all the buildings you would obviously get in a city and try to meet the needs of the people in a community.

“The whole day is a useful way of inducting them so they know what the college is like and we can get to know them as well as some of them may well end up coming back as students soon.”
