Eight teenagers have been arrested this afternoon following an alleged assault in Keighley yesterday.

Two boys aged 15 and 16 were taken to hospital following the afternoon incident on Spring Gardens Lane.

At that time each weekday the lane is busy with hundreds of students walking home from Holy Family School and University Academy Keighley.

A police spokesman said officers were called at around 3.15pm yesterday to reports of an ongoing fight on Spring Gardens Lane.

He said two boys were approached by a group of teenagers who subjected them to an assault.

He said: "The two victims were taken to hospital after sustaining cuts and bruising.

"Following a number of inquiries, eight people were subsequently arrested on suspicion of assault."

Six of the suspects are aged 15, one is 14 and one is 13. All are currently in custody.

The spokesman added: "Neighbourhood Policing Team officers are conducting reassurance patrols in the area and working with local schools.

"Any witnesses or anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the non-emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

University Academy Keighley today said it was unable to comment on the incident because it was a police matter, and Holy Family School was unavailable for comment.
